  1. International Left-Handers Day is annually observed on 13 August across the globe to recognize and appreciate the diverse skills, talents, and viewpoints of left-handed individuals. The theme for International Left-Handers Day 2023 is “Left-Handers in Sports”. 
  2. Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) approved the appointment of Amit Jhingran as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for SBI Life Insurance Company Limited.
  3. In a significant recognition of local craftsmanship and agricultural heritage, the Geographical Indication (GI) Tags have been bestowed upon Rajouri Chikri Wood Craft from Rajouri district and the prized Mushqbudji Rice variety from Anantnag district.
  4. Renowned actress Mrunal Thakur is all set to be honoured with the prestigious Diversity in Cinema Award at the upcoming Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IIFM).

  10. McDonald’s India (West and South) has launched the nation’s first-ever Airport Drive-Thru Restaurant in Mumbai.
  11. Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Ayush, Shri Sarbanannda Sonowal launched Port Health Organisation (PHO) module under Sagar Setu-National Logistics Portal (Marine), in an attempt to enable faster and simpler ecosystem to promote Ease of Doing Business (EODB).
  12. The West Bengal University Laws (Amendment) Bill 2023 was passed in the Assembly on 4 August 2023, replacing the Governor with the Chief Minister as the Chancellor of all state-aided universities.
  13. India’s first payment bank, Airtel Payment Bank also became the first Indian Bank to launch an eco-friendly debit card for its new and existing customers with a savings bank account which will be crafted from recycle-Poly Vinyl Chloride (r-PVC) material, a certified eco-friendly material, against normal PVC cards.
  14. The Festival of Libraries 2023 was organised by the Ministry of Culture in India, to foster the development and digitization of libraries and cultivate a reading culture.
  15. The Assam Government decided to formulate the Assam Anand Marriages Registration Rules, 2023 as a mark of recognition to the customs of Assam’s Sikh community.
  16. Padma Awardee and renowned nuclear physicist Bikash Chandra Sinha on 11 August 2023, passed away in Kolkata at the age of 78 due to age related ailments.
